DCC Wiring Question

Jerry has a question for readers:

“I have the ON30 rolling equipment and track but now need some recommendations from blog readers on how to do the DCC wiring. Can anyone offer recommendations? It is greatly appreciated..thanks Jerry”

      Thanks Stephen but one question: will the books you recommend give me step by step instructions on doing the actual wiring? So many of the help books talk about DCC but do not show how to specifically do the job. Thanks for your help and response..Jerry

    I still use blocks, and block on/off switches. Several reasons. I run DCC & DC on my layout, but being able to turn blocks on and off makes it easier to isolate problems like short circuits. Also I like having block “Occupied” indicators, and you must have isolated blocks to do so. When I park trains anywhere on the layout, I can switch them off to conserve power for other sections. I run a power buss with heavy gauge wire, around the layout, where each block is tapped into the buss. I use Atlas Selector switches to control the blocks because they are simple and easy to use. This may not be the preferred method, but it works for me. and it still allows me to run DC if I want too.
