What’s the Best Model Train Software?
Ed wants to hear the personal preferences and opinions from readers relating to model railroad software and asks:
“What do readers think is a good layout design software. I’ve been trying to download xtartk cad .I just can’t figure out why it will not download right.”

Hi Ed,
Take a look at SCARM (Simple Computer Aided Railway Modeller) I have been been using it for a few months now and find it very good. It’s multi-lingual, automatically creates lists of the track parts you need and gives a basic 3D view of your designed layout. It also supports a “boatload” of different track types.
Hope this helps….. Ray
I tried using SCRAM but could work out how to lay flexitrack.
Oops – should be SCARM
Hi…XTrackCad is a great tool. But a much easier one is SCARM.info. Try it…you’ll like it.
P.S. SCARM railroad software is FREE as well!
You may want to try Cadrail.. It’s easier to use and save. I also use it to print out my switch yard for control panels. Bill
