Converting HO Track To Real Life Sizing

Joseph asks readers:

“How much track do you need for a one mile of HO track?”

  • Gene Godbold says:

5,300 feet in a mile, which works out to around 60 feet of track in HO scale, if I did the conversion right. After a little math you’ll realize that modeling exact distance to scale really isn’t feasible.

  • Steve Lindhurst says:

Okay, just so y’all know, a mile is 5280 feet NOT 5380 feet. Although I guess ya could round it up to 5300 feet. But with calculators and such why would you? I would have to agree with Gene Godbold, though, it doesn’t really seem feasible unless you have tons of space. Just sayin’.
