Replicating What Could Be A Real Life Scene

Model railroad scene industrial track side

I reality the world is far from perfect, so to look authentic, a scene on a scale railway layout is also likely to have imperfections. This scene captured at the Brisbane, Australia 2015 Train Show is a good example. Notice the little wall surrounding the tall tanks – notice it’s a bit uneven and rough. The surface on the little road leading to workshops is not perfectly edged – in fact it seems to disappear into gravel/dirt. Little details like these can be the difference between an artificial manicured looking scene, and one that looks as if it would in the real world. Worth thinking about? This video has more suggestions for creating authentic looking scenery.

A LOT of roads in the real world look just like that one. Yes the retention wall is rough and too small for the tank size. But these are typical of imperfections that the normal visitor wouldn’t notice, because they would be “wowed” by the quality of the overall detail.

    I agree with Bob .
I like to mix asphalt with dirt in my scene and liked how it was done this detail shown in the scene.
As for the fuel tank, I think that the retaining wall would not be discordant , should haveer a little more aging tanks , showing a more deserted scene.
By the looks of the tanks , they are in use and the retaining wall should have been presented in a better state .

    Best Regards

You can use old pieces of track to make a coal store as per the attached photos.
