Cheri asks readers:

“I want to build a car lot near my train. I have 25 1/54 cars, and am hoping that they will work near an N scale train set. Thank you.

    Hi Cheri
1/54 cars will be far to big for an N scale train you should be using 1/160 Ho uses 1/87 hope this helps

  • Your autos are somewhat close to “S’ scale which is 1/64. “O” scale is 1/48 and “HO” is 1/87.

  • Frank B says:

    British N Scale is 1:148
    USA & Continental N scale is 1:160

However, some layouts use a “forced perspective”, with larger scale items at the front and smaller models at the back.

  • Newman Atkinson says:

Sounds like the cars you might have could possibly be the size of Hot Wheel type cars. S Scale could be a decent use of them, and in special scenes I have seen cars like these made into a car show but right up in front next to your guests. With them being oversized if they sit up front they will look closer as they are bigger. and your trains in HO will look more distant. I have seen this done at a friend’s layout and looked pretty good. But if you put them right into your regular HO scene they will look way to big. from Newman
