Check the instructions manual for the loco or the decoder you used . It is very simple but must be done with the guidance of the manual.
Doc is right you will do well to have the instruction sheets in front of you for both the DCC system and the Engine especially if you have DCC instructions for a DCC chip in the engine already installed.
If you are using digitrax you can do it from the throttle but is sometimes difficult . At any case you want to make changes on an isolated track from all other engines or remove all othe engines so as not to mess them up. It is also recommended to make changes from Decoder pro computer program linked to your system. It is also a good place to save those settings on the program in case you have to reset your engine back to factory default settings so you can reprogram your CV’s for that engine back to it . Newman
Hello Travis & all
Since you are asking that question, I would say that you haven’t got into DCC yet.
I will try to answer your questions the best I can.
Think of a DCC decoder as a miniature computer installed in the engine, The CV’s as like programing a small computer “the decoder” to tell the engine what and how you want it to do.
Their are a lot of DCC controllers and to ask in the middle of a train show “which one is the best” ??? well you should climb up in a corner and watch the fight that is about to begin!!!
So I am going to stick my neck out now. If you haven’t bought DCC stuff yet, I found that NCE power cab is the easiest to use and best for a beginner to set CV’s with, it is like going through and picking out of “a worded list” what you want to set “as the different motor settings,, light settings, and pretty much all you will need to set as a beginner. and what is a lot more easier is using TCS WOW sound Decoders , they have a voice sound that leads you through all of the major settings to adjust the CV’s. a person that has never used DCC before can take a NCE power cab and a engine with TCS WOW decoder and within 30 mins of reading the pamphlet can have the engine running with no problems except in remembering what buttons to press for all of the different sounds etc. the decoder comes with all of the button functions and how to set it up.
I BELEAVE WHAT LC SAYS BECAUSE I HAVE DIGETRAX AND IT ISN’T AS EASY TO DO CV’S U CAN DO MORE WITH DIGETRAX THEN NCE. NCE HAS COME A LONG WAY FROM 10 YRS, AGO. IT SOUNDS LIKE NCE IS A BETTER CHOUSH THEN ANY OTHER.
