Switch Wiring Problems
John model O scale and asks readers:
“My problem is that SW2 switches as if it didn’t have external power, and it does, as the train passes over. If I remove the connecting track to the switch from the saw mill loop there is no problem. That solution doesn’t allow a return from the spur to the main line. What am I doing wrong?”

Without a diagram of your problem area it is difficult to suggest a solution. If you are using a reverse loop as in my attached diagram there will always be a short circuit problem that can simply be fixed by cutting the tracks at the points A and B and inserting switches so that A is connected and B isolated and vice versa. The train will need to be stopped between A and B so that the direction on your controller can be reversed before you throw both A and B switches. Electronic gurus can devise a way to keep the train moving through the whole loop.
If your problem is the same as Roberts drawing, then the solution is a didgitrax AR1 follow the instructions problem solved train enters loop runs round and exits without stopping or causing a short circuit. I use one of these on my reverse loop works every time even on DCC. Best of luck Graeme
