“Hello. I purchased a Lionel North Pole Central operating searchlight No. 6-26892 at an estate sale. Box & plastic packaging, but no instructions. I’m running on FasTrack & was wondering if I need a certain accessory track to operate the car. Thanks.”

Hi Mark, I would indeed start adding a Resistor with that and see if it get hot to touch if so take that resistor off and place a bigger one on.
Other the above is there a way to inspect the the light to see ifs LED or something else
No you don’t need anything special, just put on track and it should light.
