Model Train Creeping Forward
Robert M asks:
“I have a tri-ang electronic controller that when the train is stopped it keeps creeping forward or in reverse when the reversing switch is thrown. Can an electronics Guru tell where the fault lies? I will try to add a photo.”

Couldn’t see where to add a photo with my original question so here it is.

Without testing it, I would guess that even with the control set to zero, it (or something else) is still putting some voltage on the track. Simple test would be to disconnect it from the track while the locomotive is creeping. If the loco continues to creep, the problem is something else supplying a bit of power. If the loco stops, use a volt meter to check the controller to see if it is leaking power to the track when it shouldn’t be. In that case, you’re probably better off just replacing it.
Thanks Dale, I will. It is a pity as it gives very good starting and slow control.

That was a good explanation of why and how to figure out the problem. If you find that the controller is not going to a full zero volts, open it and see if there is a small potentiometer that can be adjusted to get to zero. Some times when these get old, things drift and an adjustment will make it work.
