Flange Distances?

Mike models N gauge and asks readers:

“What is the correct distance between flanges on trucks for N gauge? I’m real new to the hobby.”

  • Frank Bushnell says:

The important dimension is the gauge of the track, as different manufacturers may have different thickness flanges on their wheels.
N gauge is 9mm, so the distance between the _outsides_ of the flanges should be minutely less than that.
When you have axle/wheel assemblies all from the same maker, you can note the inner dimension and use it as a standard for checking those.

Invest in an N scale NMRA Guage. It is a Go/NoGo guage for wheels and track.
