Hi Ron, If you are new to this great hobby there are many Layout books out there that go into this from beginners to seasoned RR modelers. I have kept all my books that were useful to me over the years and passed them on if I had no need any more. Roberts book should be a great help, and Atlas has detailed Layouts and they give you a complete parts list, and for a hefty price they will send you all the parts you need from tracks to switches, turnouts, wire, and detailed directions, etc, once in a while they put these parts layouts on a great sale and they are worth it. Model RR magazine if you subscribe for at least 1 year you can down load 100s if not more of all kinds of layouts. You can run as many lines as you want depending on the size you plan on and can add to it later on. Tony P
