HO Atlas Turnouts and DCC

Stan asks experienced model railroaders for advice:

“I am limited for space. I am building a twice around HO 5′ x 9′ layout. I am planning on several turnouts and on going with DCC. What type of turnout works best … an Atlas Snap Switch or #4 Customline Switch? These turnouts are for spurs so it’s not necessary that I keep an 18″ radius. My concern is with the electrical continuity and shorting?”

thars not much differnce in the snap or custom line but the custom line has a insulated power frog all this is is a frog that if left as is will be dead (no power) if you would like to make it a live frog to lesson the chance of a stall i would say use atlas under the table switch machine it has a biult in relay you can wire up to change the frog from +/- if wired up right and it will line the trunout points at the same time atlas sells a wireing book on thar website its about $20 us dollars but its worth it for the info you get from it

Some will work some may not depends on thier age. hook up your DCC with test leads as you go, if you develop a short isolate the frog. Any engines that pull power on all wheels will not be a problem on a dead frog.
