HO Car Hitches and Remote Hitching

Lang wants to hear what others think and asks:

“I am just restarting my interest and activity working with an HO layout. In the process I will need to purchase new locos and/or cars and I am just a neophyte in every respect. My question is – What are the names of the top end hitches and what are the advantages of one version over another?  I will be considering some form of remote hitching an un-hitching. Will appreciate any help.”

Some of the top couplers are Kadee, Intermountain, E-Z Mate, among a wide selection, Each is compatible with the others. Prices vary and you need to decide whether you want to use the metal shank or the plastic ones, There are several uncoupling devices, both annual and electrical. I would suggest picking up several “how to” magazines before doing much of anything. There are a number of publications available to assist all degrees of modelers from the newest beginner to the master whose name is recognized worldwide,

I have changed all my couplings to Kadee as these look and operate better than the others and the draft boxes are readily availabe here in new Zealand. I model early Americian around 1936 and the Virginia and Truckee line. I also use under rail magnets to operater the couplings so that they are not visable between the rails to look more authentic. I hope this helps with your choice.
