Model Railroad Track Screws

“I am still planning my N scale layout, but I picked up 1000 track screws on eBay for around $30. So far I haven’t read of anybody using them but they should hopefully be easier to remove than track nails or glue. Does anybody have any comments on the use of these screws?”

to help me save time searching could you please let me know who you got them from. I would really like to use screws also. glueing the road bed is hard enough.

just go to ebay and type in track screws. You’ll find several listings.
I have used flat head screws of this type (size) and love them. I am HO scale so I have a little more room on my ties. I use an 1/8th inch bit and hand clear a counter sink in the middle of the tie and then dirve the screw. I often predrill the holes if I’m going into wood very far and It doesn’t hurt to put the smallest amount of dish soap on the threads to help drive them and to prevent breaking them off since they are so thin.
Years ago, in my wood shop I stopped using any type of screw except the square head (Robinson) screws. I have carried this into my train layout also. They are just easier to use.
Usually,I get my screws from McFeely’s (McFeelys.com). However, the track plus the foam mat under by O gauge track required a 3/4″ screw, which McFeely’s did not have. I was able to order the square head screws from Fasenall.
Never nail or glue down track. If you are like me, I like to change layout design to keep improving the layout.
I can’t find any screws small enough for Atlas code 55 flex track, even on eBay. Does anyone have any suggestions? Kensey
Does anyone have a source for a 2 inch track screw for O scale? I need to go through track, foam and then into the plywood.
