Tethered Throttles

Shaun asks readers:

“Hi people – do tethered throttles carry the track current thru the coiled phone cord?
I’m going to have two tethered cabs and the coiled phone cable looks ideal.”

Using DCC your throttles will be using a computer cable signal and not the track power, Your track power goes direct to your track. Your throttles only send the signals back to your main unit and then feeds those signals out with the track power wires.. Newman

Using plain old DC, the controller current goes through the cable.
Up to HO scale, this is usually a maximum of 1/4 amp, so you will be OK with phone handset cable.
But if you want to be safe, include a 250mA fuse in the circuit !

Thanks Frank, I forgot to mention that’s its dc N.
I’ve got circuits for the throttles but want to have hand holds for speed and direction.
With your help I can now also use telephone cable for block wiring – making things so much tidier.

Cheers from NZ.
