Locating Specific Building

Dan asks readers:

“Hi was looking for an N scale Santa workshop building and/or village for my layout. Does anyone know were to buy theses items? Thank you.”

One option for Dan would be to simply adapt another building by adding a festive theme to it. Even something such as one of the barns seen here could be adapted with snow added, decorations, glitter, and maybe colored leds added http://www.modelbuildings.org/Barn-and-WC-B444.html It really comes down to whether you can find something ready-made, what it costs, or whether you need to get creative and design your own.

One Response to Locating Specific Building

  • Newman Atkinson says:

Dan, There are a lot of building kits in N scale in the Walther’s Train Catalog. For it to be a Santa Shop may take some creative decorating might have to happen. Walther’s also has some people and some other things that might help. I also find things at train shows. You never know what you will find at these.
An example that I am working on is an old western restaurant or saloon building (rustic )that I have found in HO Scale. I am turning it into a Cracker Barrel Restaurant. I am still looking for rocking chairs. But I will find them. Things like the gift cards they have after you have used them up I cut the restaurant logo out of it and it is mounted on the front of the building and I am now working on a sign for out front along the street A little gardening along the porch and wa-la a cracker barrel. It may be smaller than the real restaurants but it will be well recognizable.
Go take a look at the small shops the Snow Village has that Hall Mark sells get ideas from that and then find building kits or used buildings even better that relate to what you pictured and everything and anything is game for your project. Even Hallmark has very small ornaments and characters that you would be surprised that would fit nicely on an N scale Santa Shop. Realistically one made with your own hands can and usually is much better than a store bought one. from Newman Atkinson
