determining the radius of a number 6 switch
I think the radius for a #6 is close to 54″ rad. #8 is 96″
Peco radius for #6 is about 43″ & #8 is just over 67″.

Turnouts don’t have a radius, since they have an angle of a frog. They are connected by the diverging rail. The curve does not have a true radius, since it starts straight and curves
until it meets the angle of the frog. In other words, don’t put the turnout in a circle and expect it to remain a circle. In choosing a turnout, if you have the space, use the #6, it puts less strain on the couplers.
Turnout Number #6
Lead 6.25”
Frog Angle 9 degrees 32’
Closure Radius 43”
Turnout Number #8
Lead 9.00”
Frog Angle 7 degrees 09’
Closure Radius 67”
