What To Look For When Buying A Locomotive

If you are looking to buy a new locomotive for your layout there are some things you need to look out for.

Start by checking the wheels. If the wheels are not connected to a gear, then the locomotive wheels will move easily when you push them with your finger. If the locomotive wheels move just a little and then go stiff, they’re connected to a gear. That’s a good sign.
If the locomotive is slow to start, then consider buying something a bit better. A good locomotive is worth the investment!
The locomotive motor is also important and needs to be of good quality, to turn smoothly, using the least amount of electricity.

This On30 Heisler looks great, I hope that it comes with sound, then it will not require the gysmtnaics of adding it on. Now that Bachman is going to re-issue the two Porters with DCC & sound I am going to have some Porters that I have been wondering how to add DCC & sound without a tender, I guess there will be a grave yard of old Porters down by the round house.
