Operating Height

William has a question about O and G scale and asks readers:

“I have lots of space for my layout, but am unsure as to the recommended height for my operating height!”

Answer this question below.

One Response to Operating Height

  • Ken Malgren says:

That’s generally pretty subjective. Usually the closer to eye-level the layout is the better it looks. So consider your height, how far you can reach at that level, and working underneath the layout.
My personal preference is to start somewhere around 48″ from the floor. I’ve seen layouts anywhere from 36″ to 60″ above the floor.
