A Keen Hobbyist Has His Say

If model train manufacturers want to promote the hobby it should be done through advertising, something that model railroading doesn’t get enough of. This is the view of at least one keen model railroader (watch video). Do you agree?

    Yes I tatally agree

  • Wayne says:

Yes I agree .It is the same here in Canada unless you know someone who is involed in the hobby or got to websites to find train shows that is the only way we know about the hobby. We have very view hobby stores here anymore and most do not do model railroading.

  • Colin Mansell says:

Yes you have got that right, no advertising no one fronts up to shows etc

  • Drew Laurianti says:

I COMPLETELY agree!!! Perhaps this is the primary reason that Floquil has stopped manufacturing paints – many manufactures have gone ‘belly-up’ – etc.!!!

I think Frank is right on with his message about model trains as a hobby. I was at the Atlanta show and I found out about the show through our Train Club. Keep up the message Frank and someday someone will listen. Happy Modeling . Sam Crow Longview , Texas

Its just the same here in Ireland. Not only that here in the North we only have a couple of half decent model shops and two model railway shows a year. But we struggle on. Keep safe.

  • Alan Roberts says:

Yes I agree,no ads on TV or other media outlets except the model railway mags. But there are a huge amount of model railway shops and online websites here in the UK. There is no shortage of places to get everything we need. Also we are lucky to be able to travel on steam hauled trains nearly every day on the main lines. I work as a steward on some, last Saturday I travelled from Weymouth on the South Coast to London and tomorrow I’m going from Poole to Bristol.
Your website is very informative, keep it up!

There is a place to start this whole ball rolling. The schools. If teachers and administrators only knew the educational possibilities in model railroading, they would be all over it. A proper model railroad involves painting, sculpture, botany, physics, electronics, history, economics, carpentry, ad nauseum. Someone should build a model railroading curriculum for grade and junior high schools, elective, but solidly supported by the school system. Kids might just get excited enough to not drop out. Once the learning bug bites you, you never stop wanting to know what you don’t know.
