Steps to Prototypical Designing
If you are new to model trains, then you’re at a loss about where to start from. Prototypical designing is just for people like you. It allows the entire railroad to be modeled according to a real system. This eliminates possibilities where trains might not be on schedule or not operate at all.
- Use Google maps to get an idea of real tracks. Take any system you like as your guide and model your track according to it.
- Find out train operations of the track you choose.
- Compress the model according to a suitable scale.
- You may use software to find the credibility of your design, before preceding with the actual model.

I’m new in this Model Train business and yes I would like to get Steps to Prototypical Designing
I model the Virginia and Truckee line as it was about 1936. although it was not a big mainline it had its challenges being in Nevada between Reno and Virginia city running along its mountainous course. Also being in New Zealand it was not an easy as I followed various photo’s and Video’s on U tube. Google Earth paid a part in organizing the layout as it is today. I found a book that listed the N.C.O. line from Mound house to .California being the longest narrow gauge line about that time and locomotives that ran on it. I also run DCC with sound on the four locomotives that I have at present. So if anyone wants to post any of the history on here I would be forever grateful. thanks.
where do I find the software to size down a design to HO
