How To Fix Railroad Track Power Outage

Keith asks readers:

“Why do both my Deltic engines keep blowing my track power?”

One Response to How To Fix Railroad Track Power Outage

  • Frank says:

    Hi Keith !
Please may I ask some diagnostic questions ?

What is “blowing” ? The fuse in the controller, or just a thermal cutout that resets itself later ?

What scale and what make are the engines, and how old are they ?
What is the make and current output of your controller ?
(Marked on specification panel, below or behind unit.)

Does this occur with the Deltics individually, or only together ?
Can you check the resistance of the Deltics motors ? (Set each loco on a single (isolated) piece of track, a multimeter on low ohms range, take a reading with the probes across the two rails.)
Are you sure there is no short circuit on the track itself ?

Just give us what information you can, and we’ll start figuring !
