Kato Motor Removal

Wayne models N Scale and posts this question:

“How do you take the motor out of a Kato EMD E8/E9 without damaging the contact strips on the top?”

Hi Wayne,
You may well have solved the problem by now, but if you remove the DCC board or the DC board, the two contact strips should almost fall out. Then the motor can be removed.
On my E8/9’s, I have soldered the motor contacts to the DCC board, which seems to be the only way to ensure a good electrical contact, so to remove the motor, I have to unsolder these contacts.
Cheers, Garth

Hi Garth, my loco is dc but if I try to lift the board the motor tends to come with it and I dont want to force it because of the drive shafts. If they pop out how do I get them back in position?
